Sitting in a dark Broadway theater, a 14-year old Aly Slominski swiftly wiped a tear away at an evening performance of Mamma Mia! Witnessing her first Broadway performance triggered something in her that she hadn’t known was there: an intense bitterness for being in the audience and not up on stage belting The Winner Takes It All.

After taking a high school aptitude test and getting the result “Data Clerk”; she said, “Nah,” and set off on a path towards the performing arts. First beginning in dance, where she studied Ballet and Jazz, as well as being part of several dance troupes that dabbled in various dance genres. At 17, Aly decided to try her hand at theater, where she studied at Marianopolis College. It was there that she fell in love. Swept up in the enchantment of storytelling, she went on to complete a BFA in Theater at Concordia University.

However an actor’s training is never done. Hungry for more, after graduating, Aly jetted off to Los Angeles to study acting for film at The Acting Corps, as well as completing several workshops and masterclasses. Now, settled back in her hometown of Montreal, Aly continues to work on her craft, training at various acting schools, taking vocal lessons and adding a new skill into the mix: aerial silks. No broken bones, thus far!

2020 undoubtedly brought struggle to many in the arts. Like most, Aly has been trying to stay creative in any way she can; by participating in Zoom Play Readings, competing in monthly acting challenges, and most recently, writing and producing her first short film, “Her Face, Her Body”.
